How days between dates are counted
The calculator counts the midnights between your two dates — the standard difference, so January 1 to January 2 is 1 day. The weekday count uses the same convention, counting only Mondays through Fridays in that span. The table then re-expresses the exact same gap as weeks + days, whole calendar months, and calendar-accurate years, months and days.
Worked example: Monday, March 2 to Monday, March 16, 2026
Both dates are Mondays two weeks apart. Counting midnight-to-midnight gives 14 days (start excluded, end included). Because the span covers two full working weeks, that is 10 weekdays (business days), which the calculator also equals 2 weeks, 0 days. If you instead needed both endpoints counted — inclusive counting, e.g. "how many days am I on holiday from the 2nd through the 16th" — you would add 1, giving 15 days.
Common date gaps at a glance
| Example gap | Days | Weeks + days | Business days |
|---|---|---|---|
| One calendar week (Jun 15 → Jun 22, 2026) | 7 | 1 wk 0 d | 5 |
| Feb 14 → Mar 14, 2026 | 28 | 4 wk 0 d | 20 |
| Jan 1 → Mar 1, 2026 | 59 | 8 wk 3 d | 41 |
| A full year (Jan 1 → Dec 31, 2026) | 364 | 52 wk 0 d | 260 |
Business-days figures count Monday–Friday only and do not remove public holidays, which vary by country. Calendar days include weekends. February spans 28 days in 2026 and 29 in a leap year such as 2024, so a Feb-to-Feb gap shifts by one day across a leap year.
